Shaping the future of mobile payment in retail together: epay becomes a member of the EHI Mobile Payment Initiative
Martinsried (Munich), March 10, 2021:
epay – prepaid pioneer and global full-service payment provider for gift card, prepaid and payment solutions – is now a new member of the EHI Mobile Payment Initiative. The renowned retail research institute, together with a cross-competitive consortium of well-known companies, such as Bluecode, CGI Germany, Google Germany, PAYBACK, PAYONE, and S-Payment, provides this platform to give retailers and consumers an unbiased source of information on the topic of mobile payment at the point of sale. The focus here is on trends, developments and implementation of mobile payment methods in Germany.
As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, the digitization of payments has received a huge boost. This development is bound to continue after the pandemic and will be very diversified.
„Different consumer needs mean that no single payment solution will prevail in the market. The overall demand for mobile payment methods and wallets, which is growing steadily, is becoming the driver of the change towards digital payment in Germany. In our position as an integrator of all common payment methods, we want to make a contribution, together with the other initiative partners, so that retailers and consumers can use the increasing payment variety effectively and easily handle the complexity.“
– Stephan Heintz, Director DACH epay
Whether it’s Google Pay, Apple Pay or alternative payment options such as Alipay: As a “payment scheme aggregator and concentrator”, epay has all established mobile payment methods in its portfolio. The existing, but also the future payment methods epay provides with only one access to its technological processing platform to its growing network with 748,000 POS terminals in 57 countries to retailers.
In addition, the company has a proven track record of acquiring various QR payment methods and covers the entire mobile payment infrastructure. Cash register interfaces and POS terminals that integrate QR wallets and mobile payment solutions are just as much part of the scope of services as special retailer apps with which payments can be processed on the move.
„We are very pleased to have epay – a global full-service payment provider and a long-standing member of the EHI – join our initiative. Together with epay and the other initiative partners, we aspire to provide retailers with transparent information on mobile payments in Germany and an overview of the various mobile payment apps in Germany.“
– Horst Rüter, member of the EHI management board
The EHI Innovation Days (March 15 through 18, 2021) is the next opportunity for a comprehensive exchange on current trends in mobile payments. This digital format highlights the most important developments in the field of technology for retailers. On March 16, epay will be among those giving a presentation on the driving forces in the mobile payment market of today and tomorrow and on how retailers can respond to them.
