Cashless transactions: KaDeWe Group to use epay
Martinsried (Munich), October 5, 2022:
The KaDeWe Group, with its three luxury department stores Alsterhaus in Hamburg, KaDeWe in Berlin, and Oberpollinger in Munich is now using epay at the point of sale (POS). As the new partner, the leading full-service provider for payment and prepaid solutions has around 500 mobile and stationary terminals in use at all three department stores. The often-international clientele at the locations was taken into account when implementing the technical solution and international QR payment solutions were integrated.
The KaDeWe in Berlin alone welcomes more than ten million visitors each year, making it one of the most highly frequented destinations in the German capital. The department stores in Munich and Hamburg are similarly important. To make payments as smooth as possible for the many tourists from the Chinese mainland, the QR code payment methods from Alipay and WeChat were integrated into the cash registers at the three department stores alongside the classic payment methods such as debit or credit card. This means visitors from many parts of the world can make their purchases using a familiar payment method.
With the innovative epay DLL integration module, the POS terminal communication and the payment processing of popular foreign mobile payment services can be carried out using just one interface. The integration module has been specially developed to suit the needs of retail so that payment terminals could be connected to the cash registers easily using plug and play. In addition to the easy addition of alternative payment solutions, other added-value offerings are conceivable, such as mobile top-ups, tax-free options, and gift card processing. This also includes epay’s Dynamic Currency Conversion (DCC) solution, which offers international customers in particular the opportunity to feel at home and pay in their home currency at the POS.
“Excellent service across all touchpoints and in all aspects – that is one of our most important values in the relationship we have with our customers. This includes guaranteeing straightforward and fast payment. We are pleased to be working with a strong partner like epay in this vital area.“
– Michael Peterseim,
Managing Director at KaDeWe Group GmbH
“Whether POS terminals or mobile payment are used, there are a variety of cashless payment options in retail. It is important to be familiar with the payment methods your customers expect and to make them technically secure and easy to manage for the cashiers. At the same time, the addition of new, international payment methods should be easy to implement for the retailer at any time. That is why we developed the universal epay integration module DLL interface. By processing the payments for the KaDeWe Group, epay shows that we offer the complete package for payment in brick-and-mortar retail.”
– Julian Hüner,
Team Lead Product & Project Management Schemes Payment at epay
Currently, the POS terminals and the debit card network operations of epay are being used at the more than 500 cash registers in the three department stores. The migration to the new service was achieved in a short period of time. The epay DLL integration module including alternative payment methods is currently integrated into the KaDeWe food department—shown on one of the department store signs. The rollout to the retail area will be carried out in the coming months.
