Update
Using the POS terminal’s display as ECR screen
Communicate to the customer via POS terminal display
As a leading full-service payment provider and one of the fastest growing networks for global digital commerce services, epay is steadily increasing its value-added services offering.
The newest release of epay’s ECR API, the “epay Integration Module (IM)”, allows merchants to use the POS terminal’s display as an additional ECR screen display to the customer. The feature enables the transmitting of strings from the ECR to the POS terminal. Thus, content (e.g., QR Codes) generated by the ECR can be displayed on the screen of the POS terminal. With this, merchants can communicate to their customers via POS terminal display.
Use Case: Digital Receipt
One use case of this new feature is displaying a QR code on the POS terminal screen that contains all the necessary information of a digital receipt. Customers can use their smartphone to scan the QR code shown on the terminal display immediately after the checkout process and use the digital receipt as needed.
Technical integration
To enable this feature epay’s IM must be installed once on the ECR. The epay IM is available for both Windows and Linux ECRs. After this integration is done, the ECR utilizes epay’s Integration Module (IM) to connect to the POS terminal. The IM is based on the protocol ZVT to integrate ECR and POS terminals. Via a ZVT command the IM enables ECRs to transmit the created QR code (and other strings). The solution is simple and can be implemented quickly. This functionality can be activated on the existing POS terminals with epay IM. No additional hardware or software is necessary.
Benefits
In addition to its easy implementation, the functionality offers other benefits for the merchants.
- By using the digital receipts, the merchants can reduce costs and become more sustainable by requiring less paper or printer maintenance.
- Moreover, with offering digital receipts with QR code, the merchants position themselves more digitally and offer their customers an additional service, which adds on to the customer satisfaction.
- The greatest added value of the digital receipt is the digital touchpoint directly to the customer, which offers a variety of new possibilities for interactions, customer loyalty and upselling options.
