SoftPOS from epay turns Android devices into points of payment with girocard acceptance

The collaboration with Vectron makes SoftPOS benefits immediately available to the hotel and restaurant industry

epay, one of Europe’s leading full-service providers for prepaid and payment solutions, is now enabling acceptance of contactless payments by debit card and their virtual equivalents on Android devices – from smartphones and tablets to other handheld devices – with its new SoftPOS solution. Retailers can download the app onto any Android-compatible device to make it able to receive payments by girocard, debit and credit cards (Visa and MasterCard), and other mobile payment options (Apple Pay and Google Pay). The app is flexible and functions as a stand-alone solution without any additional hardware, or as an addition to an existing cash register system. This allows the solution to be used in many contexts: from small and large retailers, restaurants and cafes, taxis and delivery services to the event sector, it is an affordable payment alternative that is easy to set up.

Start of successful pilot in hotel and restaurant industry in partnership with Vectron

epay has begun a pilot program in partnership with Vectron, provider of cash register solutions and digital services, to make the benefits available in the hotel and restaurant sector.

The SoftPOS solutions allow for seamless payment processing for gastronomy, service staff, and customers alike. Devices equipped with this solution can process payments on site without the customer needing to proceed to checkout or wait in line. This way, the solution saves time while equipping food trucks, small cafes and restaurants to accept the modern payment methods customers themselves have asked for, but without any additional investment.

Technical requirements

SoftPOS from epay is available for free in the Google Play store. Retailers need only install the app on an Android device to use it as a POS terminal. The device must be an official Android device, have NFC capability and run an updatable version of Android (at least Version 10.0). COS devices require Google Mobile (SafetyNet) services. Before a device can be used as a payment terminal, it must be verified. Custom ROMs and rooted devices are not currently supported.
